Margaret Thatcher dies following stroke

Lambeth Palace, the central office of the Church of England, say no decision has been made yet about who will conduct the funeral service.


She is both reviled and revered, Britain’s most controversial and longest-serving modern prime minister. Margaret Thatcher, who led her country into war, and through upheaval, died Monday after a stroke. She was 87.
Known universally as the Iron Lady for her steely determination, Thatcher was Britain’s first and only female prime minister. She had been frail and in poor health for years, and hadn’t been seen in public for months. Thatcher’s death was announced in a statement from her children.
Born the daughter of a grocer in Lincolnshire, Thatcher was first elected to the House of Commons in 1959. Two decades later, she was leader of the Conservative Party, and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. more
